THE GAUNTLET

[RELEASE 10.55]

Welcome to The Gauntlet, an action shooter with elements from Cuphead taken to create a whole new game with charm and new characters! This is just meant to be a silly and goofy fun game. This game started as a small passion project, however it evolved so much over the past few years of development I decided to post it here for funsies. The art of the game is a bit on the low end of quality, as I didn't want to sacrifice gameplay for some visuals. I tried to make the game as fun as possible with the limitations at hand. Expect some bugs, but have fun!

The game may take a while (up to a minute or two) to load, sorry. It's kinda big for a browser game.

=-= controls =-=

KEYBOARD

- [A] & [D] to move, [SPACE] or [W] to jump, hold for higher

- [Click] to shoot, hold to keep firing. Put your mouse left and right of your avatar to aim in those directions, the same with shooting upwards

- Press [S] to crouch and double tap [S] to get down thin platforms

- [Q] to swap to your primary and secondary weapons

- [R] to use an EX ability, which uses 1 card from your deck on the bottom. Build up cards by doing damage. Each shot has a unique EX!

- [E] and [Q] to equip shop weapons to your primary and secondary respectively. Click on stuff to buy it

CONTROLLER

Want to play with a controller? Sure! The 9.0 update adds full controller support to The Gauntlet. Go to the settings button on the top right of the main menu and toggle it using the first button on the top. I've tried to make these controls as similar to Cuphead as possible, so hopefully there's not much confusion.

- [L STICK] to move, and [L STICK UP] to aim your shots upwards

- [Bottom Button, A/B] to jump, hold for higher

- [Left Button, X/Y] to shoot, hold to keep firing. It'll aim wherever your character is looking. You can also use [Right Trigger] for this.

- [Right Button, B/A] Uses your EX cards, or parries if you have the Parry Patty equipped

- [Left Bumper] to swap from secondary to primary or vice versa

- Menus

- [Left Stick] move your red cursor

- [Bottom Button A/B] Clicks, and selects whatever your controller's red cursor is on

- [Right Trigger & Left Trigger] Use these while highlighting shop items to equip them. Left for secondary, right for primary

=-= saving =-=

Saving is pretty simple, press the Save icon on the top left (in the main menu or on a death card) and save that code somewhere! You can put this code into the Load icon on any new webpage to load your progress If your save gets outdated (which it might as the game gets updated) try adding characters (doesn't matter which) to your code until the char count reaches 16, as this is how the game's saves work.

=-= credits =-=

[All from Scratch]

- Credit for music is by Cuphead obviously, aside from the shop & main theme being from Mario & Kirby respectively

- Credit to @30trashkid for a buncha stuff in the game in general, from the logo to ideas and such

- Credit to @QuiveringPorpoise for the Scratch cat's walking animation (adjusted a little)

- Credit to the entire website of Scratch, as that's what this was made on. It expanded so much it became such a huge project that it doesn't even work on Scratch anymore!

- Credit to @PizzaGut as I reused a few particles to create this (they also made a Cuphead game, go check it out)

- Credit to @toopgobo for making a really sweet text engine! Go check it out

Ahh~~ I remember being at The Gauntlet! You know they give you a The Gauntlet branded t-shirt before going to view a fight, no? One of the fights I saw were between what looked like an amassed form of muscles, and a shape-shifting form of goop. The cameras turned on and the lights went out.... everyone's muscles were tensed, but then smoke covered the arena and you could see the silhouettes of the fighters coming out! Woaa~~ so cool!! But I only really got to see a couple matches, and it's better that you see the archived recordings on The Official Gauntlet DVD, than my own retellings, since they speak for themselves.

But that's all I have to write! Aye aye~
